Frequently asked questions
for facilitators

Facilitators are people who themselves have experience with mental illness or mental health problems and who have also experienced recovery in their own lives. Facilitators should have some experience in peer support work or have some peer support training.

The facilitator manual for Your Personal Recovery Journey (here link) offers comprehensive guidance on preparing for and facilitating Your Personal Recovery Journey sessions. Additionally, a recorded webinar is available here (link), which provides an orientation on general facilitation skills.

Your Personal Recovery Journey consists of six modules, each lasting 1.5 to 2 hours, typically one per week. In addition to facilitating these modules, facilitators will need to allocate time for reading the facilitator manual, preparing for facilitation, promoting the program to potential participants, and managing logistical arrangements for either in-person or virtual facilitation. This includes tasks such as having participants sign confidentiality agreements and setting up the room.

You can contact the Schizophrenia Society of Canada here (link) if you would like further information or wish to provide feedback about Your Personal Recovery Journey.
